Left Wing
5. Filip Forsberg, Nashville Predators
[sc:NHL240 ]Filip Forsberg has that natural ability to score goals, goals and more goals. He immediately made an impact for the Nashville Predators last season, scoring 26 goals and assisting in 37 others as a member of the team’s top forward line and power play. Forsberg should equal those totals or even more having spent more time with the Preds.
4. Zach Parise, Minnesota Wild
If there’s one guy who’s going to score goals aplenty for the Minnesota Wild, it’s going to be Zach Parise. He’s was lights out last season, leading the team in goals (33), points (62) and plus-minus (21). Parise will give you 30 goals and about 60 points much like he has in three of the past four seasons.
3. Johnny Gaudreau, Calgary Flames
Johnny Gaudreau may be small. But he packs a big punch playing in one of the league’s most dynamic lines for the Calgary Flames. A finalist for the Calder Memorial Trophy last season, Gaudreau scored 24 goals and 40 assists, including 21 power play points to help guide his team to the playoffs. Expect more from Johnny Hockey in his sophomore season in the NHL.
2. Jamie Benn, Dallas Stars
It’s the Jamie Benn (and Tyler Seguin) show in Dallas. Benn was spectacular last season, collecting 35 goals and 52 assists, both personal bests on his way to taking the Art Ross Trophy. Considering that he gets to play with a healthy Seguin in the Stars’ frontline, expect Benn to once again be a points-hoarder.
1. Alex Ovechkin, Washington Capitals
You only need to look at Alex Ovechkin’s 53 goals to find out why he’s the best left winger in the league. If you adjust his goal total in the lockout-shortened 2012-2013 season, then Ovi would have three straight seasons with 50 goals or more, about 25 power play goals and almost 400 shots. Having Ovechkin in your team should give you a boost in those three categories right off the bat. Ovi is worth a first overall pick. Grab him before someone else does.
Right Wing
5. Nikita Kucherov, Tampa Bay Bolts
Being a third of one of the league’s best forward lines gives you a spot in this list. Nikita Kucherov didn’t get the props he deserved before the start of last season. He went ahead to score 28 goals and 64 points skating in Tampa Bay’s Triplets line. There’s room for more for this 22-year-old wunderkind.
4. Jakub Voraceck, Philadelphia Flyers
One of the best setup men in the league, Jakub Voraceck is there to boost your fantasy team. He scored a career-high 81 points last season, with an impressive 59 assists. He should be a solid skater alongside linemate Claude Giroux (48 assists last season) as the Flyers attempt to rise up to contender status once again.
3. Vladimir Tarasenko, St. Louis Blues
Vladimir Tarasenko is a star in the making. He had a breakout season last time around, scoring 37 goals and had 36 assists on 264 shots. Considering that he’s just 23 years old, Tarasenko still has plenty of upside than some of the veteran right wingers in the league. He’ll be very motivated to keep up or even exceed last year’s numbers after signing an eight-year $60-million extension.
2. Phil Kessel, Pittsburgh Penguins
There’s a chance that Phil Kessel may still be on the table after the first round due to the hate he gained playing in Toronto. If he’s still available in the second round, grab him. He’s due for a big season, perhaps 40-plus goals playing alongside the likes of Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. His chemistry with Crosby is already looking very good.
1. Corey Perry, Anaheim Ducks
One of the most physical, and rough right wingers in the league, Corey Perry is once again due for a big season for the Anaheim Ducks. Perry should be able to average a point per game this upcoming season. He should be back to his sub-40-point goal totals this season, while also racking up penalty minutes in abundance due to his style of play. Consider Perry the top right winger in the league.
