Betting on Novak Djokovic (-8,000)
Novak Djokovic, currently fourth in the world rankings, advanced after retiring Martin Klizan (calf) in the Round of 128s, with the score favoring the Serbian, 6-3, 2-0.
It’s still early in the tournament, so we should see Djokovic breeze through his opponents. He’s 73-16 on the grass (unbeaten this year) and 54-9 at the Wimbledon in his career, and has also reigned the event in 2015 and 2016. Further, Djokovic has reached the third round or the quarter finals in each of his last four tournaments.
With him getting quite shockingly upset in last year’s Wimby by Sam Querrey, who booted him out in the third round, expect “The Joker” to be on redemption mode.
Betting on Adam Pavlasek (+2,500)
World no. 136 Adam Pavlasek moved on after outlasting Ernesto Escobedo in an entertaining back-and-forth affair in the first round, 6-7(7), 6-1, 6-3, 6-1. The 22-year-old Pavlasek, obviously, will be among the tourney’s ultimate long shots, as he is now pitted against one of the sport’s royalties.
Confidence-wise, he could be in a good position, as he has now won four of his last five and three of his last four on grass courts. However, the quick and easy way to put it is this: he is bound to fall to Djokovic, and it is almost impossible to think that he has a fighting chance. He has a measly 10 ATP appearances under his belt, and he only won three of those matches.
Writer’s Prediction
Djokovic (-8,000) wins it in straight sets.
