Betting on the Oakland Athletics

[sc:MLB240banner ]On the verge of dropping three games in a row, the Athletics will turn to newcomer Brad Mills who is set for only his second start of the season.

Mills gave up three runs (two earned) in four innings of work in his first start for Oakland, throwing 94 pitches in a no-decision against the 2013 champions Boston Red Sox.

Mills was inserted to the starting rotation after left-handed starting pitcher Drew Pomeranz was placed on the 15-day disabled list after fracturing his right hand punching a chair in reaction to a disappointing performance against the Rangers last June 17 where he allowed seven earned runs on eight hits in a 14-8 defeat.

The left-handed Mills may have disappointed somewhat in his debut but manager Bob Melvin saw glimpses of the form he showed at Triple-A Nashville where he posted a 1.56 ERA as a starter.

The A’s, who lead the league in runs scored (390) and on-base percentage (.336), could only muster one run against Bartolo Colon, who pitched an eight-inning gem last night.

Yoenis Cespedes was the lone bright spot for the Athletics on Tuesday when he had two hits and drove in the lone run for the ballclub.

Betting on the New York Mets

Zack Wheeler

Fresh off clobbering Scott Kazmir, the AL ERA leader (9-3, 2.66 ERA), for seven runs in just three innings of work, the Mets, who have won five of their last six games, will turn the ball over to their 24-year-old right-hander Zack Wheeler (3-7, 3.93) to get the job done.

Like the Mets, Wheeler is hoping to sustain some momentum in this game. In his last outing, he pitched his first-ever complete game shutout, allowing only three hits and one walk while delivering eight strikeouts against the Miami Marlins.

Wheeler may not need another clean sheet to get the win this time out. The Mets have scored 21 runs in their last two games, boosting their ugly season-long stats. The Mets are ranked 22nd in the league in runs scored with 294 and are among the worst in the league when it comes to batting averages with a .235 clip.
