Betting on the Oakland Athletics
The last time the Athletics were on a nine-game road trip, they won their first five and dropped their last four. However, they won’t feel as threatened on the road against the Yankees as the Bronx based squad has not played well at home.
[sc:MLB240banner ]Starting for the Athletics will be Scott Kazmir (6-2, 2.36 ERA) who has been running hot, with a 1.85 ERA in his last four games overall. In those four starts, he has given up just 16 hits in 24 1/3 innings while limiting opponents to a .212 average overall and striking out 15.
At the plate, Josh Donaldson has picked himself up after batting .158 in the final six games of the As’ previous road trip by going 11 for 28 (.393) with four homers and 12 RBIs on their six-game homestand against the Tigers and Angels. He will look to keep his hot streak going as the Athletics go to the Yankee Stadium to challenge the Yankees.
The total went under in the Athletics’ last five games on the road.
Betting on the New York Yankees
The Yankees have lost seven of their last 10 games at Yankee Stadium.
On the mound for the Yankees is Hiroki Kuroda (4-3, 4.57 ERA) who, like the team as a whole, is struggling at home. However, the Yankees are 13-6 in Kuroda’s last 19 home starts suggesting that Kuroda may be able to stymie the Athletics’ offense.
Despite the Yankees’ troubles on offense, there are those who have performed well for them in the past seven days. Jacoby Ellsbury and Kelly Johnson averaged .391 and .353, respectively, to keep the team’s offense afloat.
Writer’s Prediction
The Yankees have been struggling to play at home, and this will not change as the Athletics take the first game of the series at Yankee Stadium. Take Oakland at -124 to win this one.
