Even the President of the United States is turning his attention to some Olympic hockey betting this week. President Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper have bet a case of beer on each of the two huge Canada-USA Olympic hockey games that are going down this week: the women’s hockey final on Thursday and the men’s hockey semi-final on Friday.
UPDATE: Obama already owes Harper a case! The women’s end of the wager has already been decided in a nail-biting overtime game. The Canadians came back in dramatic fashion with Marie-Philip Poulin scoring with under a minute left in regulation, and then again in overtime. Poulin also scored the only two goals in the Canucks’ 2-0 win over the USA in the 2010 gold medal final.
The second half of the bet, on the men’s tournament, will be decided after Team USA and Team Canada’s respective all-star teams meet on Friday at 12:00PM ET. Read our betting preview for the game and get in on the betting action yourself. The moneyline is -110 for both teams, meaning you can win $190 when you bet $100 on either Canada or USA. Or you can take USA to keep it within one with the puckline set at +1.5.

[sc:NHL240 ]The two leaders’ boozy bet continues a tradition of friendly wagers that has been upheld by the countries’ leaders for the last several Olympics. Obama delivered a case of Molson Canadian to Harper after the Canadians beat the Americans in Vancouver in 2010.
It’s no surprise the nations’ leaders are getting involved, the games between these bitter hockey rivals are always incredibly entertaining and hard fought. The hockey-crazed Canadians have had the edge in the last two Olympics, beating the USA for gold in both the men’s and women’s gold medal games in both 2006 and 2010.
