Betting on the Ohio State Buckeyes 7-1 (-17.5)

The Ohio State Buckeyes come into this game off a huge win last weekend against the Penn State Nittany Lions, and many expected that they would be in the top four of the first installment of the college football playoff standings came out.

Both those standings came out, and the Buckeyes were in sixth place, even behind the Oklahoma Sooners the team that they have their only loss to. It will be interesting to see how the Buckeyes respond to those rankings, because it’s been made pretty clear that they still have a lot of work to do to make the college football playoffs.

The leader of this team is JT Barrett who very well could win the Heisman Trophy which is a big change after some were calling for a quarterback change after the loss to the Oklahoma Sooners. He comes into this game having thrown for 2155 yards, 25 touchdowns and one interception. Against the Nittany Lions he threw for 328 yards and four touchdowns. In this game he is going to need to figure out a pass defense for the Hawkeyes that has played well this year.

Betting on the Iowa Hawkeyes 5-3 (+17.5)

On the other side of this match up is the Iowa Hawkeyes who haven’t been all that impressive this year, but come into this game with a 5-3 record. For the Hawkeyes the strength is on the defensive side of the ball, and they need to be with the way the offense has struggled.

They are currently are giving up 17.4 points and 370.1 yards per game. They have big guys up front and don’t let opponents run easily on them. Their pass defense isn’t too bad either though, but it starts with stopping the running game.

If they want to pull the huge upset in this game, the Hawkeyes are going to need to get the offense going early, because the Buckeyes will score some points at least.

At time this year the Hawkeyes have had trouble throwing the ball through the air, and that is going to need to be different in this game.

Writer’s Prediction

The Ohio State Buckeyes are the much better team in this game, and that will show from early on. The Hawkeyes offense just isn’t good enough and that will be the difference in this one. The Buckeyes will and cover the spread in this game. Pick: Ohio State (-18.5)
