Betting on the Ole Miss Rebels (2-2 Overall / 1-0 Conference)
The Rebels didn’t bring much pride to the SEC after falling victims to Pac-12’s California Golden Bears in Oxford last Saturday, 28-20. A pivotal third-quarter spelled the difference in the game, as the Rebels went scoreless in that frame while allowing California to get 14 points. Ole Miss’ bid for a seat in the College Football Playoffs evaporated as early as Week 1, when they lost to the Memphis Tigers on the road, but here comes a chance for them to make a loud noise that certainly would bring them back into CFP conversations if they could sustain the momentum. Beating Alabama on the road will be key for Ole Miss, and the Rebels also have games down the road against the likes of the Texas A&M Aggies, Auburn Tigers, and LSU Tigers. The Rebels need to convert on their opportunities. They had 348 passing yards in the California game but scored zero on the air. They did had two rushing touchdowns, though.
The under is 3-0 in the Rebels’ last three road games.
Betting on the Alabama Crimson Tide (4-0 Overall / 1-0 Conference)
The Crimson Tide just had yet another dominant week. Last Saturday, they crushed the visiting Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles at home to the tune of a 49-7 score. They only allowed their visitors to put up points on the scoreboard when the win was already virtually in the bag for them. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was smooth under center with not much pressure from the Golden Eagles. He threw for 293 yards and five touchdowns with zero interceptions. There’s no stopping the Tide’s offense, and it doesn’t seem that Ole Miss will be the one to finally have the courage to throw spikes in front of Alabama’s air attack in particular after allowing California to score four touchdowns on 373 passing yards. Alabama entered Week 4 fifth in the nation with 382.3 passing yards per game and fifth also in scoring offense with 50.3 points per game. Those aside, convenience is also on the side for Crimson Tide, as they don’t have to leave Tuscaloosa for this game.
The Crimson Tide are 4-2 against the spread (ATS) in their last six games as the home team.
Writer’s Prediction
The Crimson Tide wins, 33-13.
