FAVORITES
Hideki Matsuyama (+1800)
Matsuyama will not be spending a lot of time in Europe following his stint at the 2022 Open Championship, as he is flying back across the pond to hunt for a win at the 2022 3M Open. Matsuyama made the cut at St. Andrews but finished just T68. Nevertheless, that is a much better showing from the Japanese pro than when he got cut in the prior tournament he played at, which was the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open. Matsuyama has two wins this season with six top 10s and nine top 25s.
Tony Finau (+1500)
Rahm is going to try his luck again in 3M Open. He has yet to win this tournament in five tries, but he has been getting better of late. After a missed cut at Carnoustie in 2018, Rahm went T1 the following year at Royal Portrush and had a T3 in 2021 at Royal St. George’s. He’s also almost a shoo-in to make the cut since he’s gone 14 of 14 in all of his last 14 starts. Over that stretch, Rahm has collected six top 10s, including a win at the 2022 Mexico Open at Vidanta.
Sungjae Im (+2200)
Sure, he missed the cut at the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open, but that does little impact on the tremendous season Scheffler is having thus far. Scheffler is 18 of 21 in the 2021-22 PGA TOUR season and that includes four victories and three runner-up finishes. Over his last five starts, he’s placed second twice and cracked the top 20 four times. He doesn’t have a lot of experience playing for a major event across the pond, as he’s only appeared in just one 3M Open, but he finished inside the top 10 there, placing T8 at the 2021 edition of this event at Royal St. George’s.
HIGH-VALUE SLEEPERS
Robert Streb (View odds)
Here’s what we said about Streb in our 2022 3M Open sleepers piece:
Ranked just 191st in the world, Streb has missed the cut in all of his last three starts, the latest being at the 2022 Barracuda Championship, where he did not make it to the weekend. He is also just 1 of 3 in his career so far at TPC Twin Cities. Having said all of that, it’s undeniable that Streb has come close to winning a tournament this season on multiple occasions. In fact, he has finished inside the top 10 three times, nailing a T9 at 2021 THE CJ CUP @ SUMMIT, and a T7 in each of the 2021 Hewlett Packard Enterprise Houston Open and 2022 Valspar Championship.
Rickie Fowler (+3000)
Here’s what we said about Fowler in our 2022 3M Open sleepers piece:
With 309 FedExCUP points, good for just 129th in the standings, Fowler will look to add more to that when he tees off this week at TPC Twin Cities. Fowler is 5 of 6 in his last six starts, including a T47 at the 2022 Genesis Open. He did not play at 2022 The Open Championship, so he will have a pair of fresh legs when he starts swinging this coming Thursday. Fowler is 11 of 18 this season overall with three top 25s. His best finish to date this campaign was a T3 at 2022 THE CJ CUP @ SUMMIT.
LONG SHOTS
Derek Ernst (View odds)
Ernst has appeared in just six events so far in the 2021-22 PGA TOUR season, going 2 of 6 to date.
Robert Garrigus (View odds)
Garrigus has missed the cut in all of this last five starts, but is 2 of 2 in his career at TPC Twin Cities.
Writer’s Prediction
Hideki Matsuyama wins the 2022 3M Open.
