The Mexico Open traces its roots all the way back to 1944 when American Al Espinosa won his first of four Mexican Open titles. Much later, in 2013, the Mexican Open became part of the PGA Tour Latinoamérica, with Ted Purdy winning that year’s edition of the tournament. In 2021, Álvaro Ortiz won the event which was held at Estrella del Mar.
