2021 Valspar Championship Predictions, Picks, Odds, and PGA Betting Preview

The Valspar Championship is the next PGA tour event on schedule. Paul Casey is on the verge of making history, as he needs a win here to complete a rare three-peat. But of course, that’s going to be easier said than done with all the talented golfers teeing off this week in Palm Harbor.

FAVORITES

Dustin Johnson (+1000)

The world’s No. 1 golfer is going to play this week at Palm Harbor. Although he hasn’t won an event so far this year, there’s no doubt that he’s a golfer to watch out for in any tournament he’s in. After a surprising cut in the Masters Tournament, Johnson got his form back by finishing with a T13 at the RBC Heritage before skipping the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Johnson is ninth overall in driving distance (312.0) and fourth in scoring average (69.805). In 2019, Johnson finished solo ninth during that year’s Valspar Championship.

Justin Thomas (+800)

Not only is Dustin Thomas going to play, but  No. 2 Justin Thomas will also be down there at Innisbrook Resort to compete for a win. Thomas last saw action at the 2021 Masters Tournament, where he finished with a T21. Prior to that, he had a T42 at the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play and won THE PLAYERS Championship. Thomas has gone 4 of 4 over his last four starts. He’s made the cut 11 times in 12 starts this season and will hit the course this week with five top 10s.

Paul Casey (+2500)

All you really need to know about Casey is that he’s won the Valspar Championship not once — but twice. He went back to back here at Innisbrook Resort in 2018 and 2020. He wasn’t able to defend his title in 2020 because of the pandemic, but will get a chance this year to complete a three-peat.

HIGH-VALUE SLEEPERS

Kevin Kisner (+6600)

Kisner has gone just 1 of 5 in his last five starts, even missing all of his last three starts. If anything, those failures have only made him a forgotten player that’s definitely under the radar of most bettors. However, Kisner could turn some heads this week, as he is 2 of 3 in his career at Innisbrook Resort.

Abraham Ancer (+3000)

Ranked 30th in the official world golf rankings, Ancer has picked it up of late, having made the cut in each of his last six starts, including a T18 at the RBC Heritage. Ancer has made the top 10 twice this season, finishing fourth at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open and getting a T5 at the American Express. In his lone start at Innisbrook Resort so far in his career, Ancer managed a solo 18th place there in 2018.

LONG SHOTS

Kevin Tway (odds)

You have to dig deep and scroll down a lot to see where Tway’s name is on the official world golf rankings. Tway is ranked 440th overall, and he’s been cut 10 times in 13 starts this season. He’s also missed the cut in two Valspar Championship starts.

Brandt Snedeker (odds)

Snedeker has been doing good of late, as he’s got a pair of top 6s in his last three starts. He is coming off a T4 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. He’ll be making his 11th start at Innisbrook Resort, where he’s made the cut nine times before.

Writer’s Prediction

Justin Thomas wins the 2021 Valspar Championship.
