Betting on the Pittsburgh Panthers (8-15)

To say that Pittsburgh is in a bad shape this season is a big understatement. It’s been a while since the Panthers have won a game, as they have been the losers in all of their last 10 outings. That stretch includes Pittsburgh’s 69-57 loss to Miami on the road last Wednesday in which the Panthers converted just 41.5 percent of their shots from the floor. Pittsburgh is having trouble scoring this season, as it is only making 63.7 points per game. It even failed to score more than 57 points in three of its last four contests. That said, Pittsburgh can find some success against North Carolina’s defense that has allowed at least 80 points to all of its last three opponents.

If you need any more encouragement to bet on the Panthers, just consider that they have gone 4-0 ATS in their last four games as a road underdog.

Betting on the North Carolina Tar Heels (16-7)

No. 19 North Carolina is looking for a pick-me up win to stop its bleeding. The Tar Heels are are on a three-game losing skid. They lost to the No. 20 Clemson 82-78 last Tuesday, and a home game against the conference’s cellar dweller in the form of the Panthers could just be what the doctor ordered for the ailing Tar Heels. For one, North Carolina is 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS in its last four home games against the Panthers. North Carolina should have little trouble disposing of the Panthers. Expect the Tar Heels to dominate the boards in this game. They are leading the nation with 43.2 rebounds per game, while the Panthers only average 32.8 per game. The Panthers have a pathetic offense and poor rebounding, and do not have their second-leading scorer in Ryan Luther (out for the season with a foot injury), so the Tar Heels have no reason or even right to lose in this game. Look for North Carolina’s offense to come out with guns blazing in this game. The Tar Heels are scoring 82.3 points per game.

Writer’s Prediction:

North Carolina wins, 81-69
