The Pirates enter tonight’s opener versus the Giants with some serious momentum on their side. Pittsburgh has won three of its last four games, including yesterday’s 11-3 drubbing of the Dodgers.

Now the Bucs put their trust on Ryan Vogelsong (1-2, 2.67 ERA) to lead them on the mound against his former ball club.

The emotions are going to be high in this game, most especially for Vogelsong, who spent five years of his career in San Francisco. He owns a 3.34 ERA in 85 career appearances at AT&T Park. He also logged in six innings of two-run ball along with five strikeouts in his last start against the Padres last Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Bucs are expecting Starling Marte to light up the plate for them. He currently leads the team in batting (.316), OBP (.375) and hits (127). He’s also hitting .315 all-time versus the Giants.

Pittsburgh is 4-6 SU in its past 10 road games.

Betting on the San Francisco Giants (-150)

On the other side, the Giants are seeking redemption after losing their series finale with the Orioles yesterday, 7-8. San Francisco, which currently holds the top seat in the NL West, is set to give the ball to Matt Moore (7-8, 3.99 ERA) in tonight’s opener versus the visiting Pirates.

Moore is making his first-ever start at AT&T Park. He’s performed well in two starts since being acquired from the Rays, surrendering just two runs and piling up 14 K’s in 12 innings during that brief stretch. Moore is also 5-3 with a 3.46 ERA across 12 starts at home this season.

On offense, the Giants are hoping that Brandon Belt can continue providing big-time contributions. He is only 3-of-13 in his last three games, but owns a career triple-slash line of .291/.356/.430 against the Pirates.

San Francisco is 4-6 SU in its previous 10 games at home.

Writer’s Prediction

Giants (-150) escape with a 5-4 victory.
