Betting on the Connecticut Huskies (odds)
Record: 15-4 Overall/4-4 Conference
The Huskies are suddenly finding it hard to win games. After starting the season with 14 wins in a row, Connecticut has now lost four of its last five games, including its 85-74 home defeat at the hands of St. John’s Red Storm on Sunday. Despite that, the Huskies remain dangerous. They are still top 15 in the nation in both adjusted offensive rating and adjusted defensive rating, per KenPom. Their defense, in particular, should be sturdy enough to handle the low-scoring Pirates, who are just 114th national with 106.7 points per 100 possessions.
The Over is 2-0 in UConn’s last two games overall.
Betting on the Seton Hall Pirates (odds)
Record: 11-8 Overall/4-4 Conference
Seton Hall is moving in the opposite direction of the Huskies. While UConn has been collecting losses of late, the Pirates will enter this Wednesday’s game having won all of their last three games. The last time they saw action, the Pirates defeated the DePaul Blue Demons on the road last Saturday, 71-67. KC Ndefo scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in that game for Seton Hall, while Al-Amir Dawes had 15 points. Dawes paces the Pirates this season with 11.9 points. Seton Hall, as mentioned, doesn’t have a high-flying offense, but it’s got a stellar defense that is top-20 in the nation with just 93.0 points allowed per 100 possessions. They defend against the 3-ball pretty well, holding opponents to only 28.0 3FG% shooting this season, thus far.
Seton Hall is 6-3-1 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
Connecticut wins, 70-63.
