Betting on the Villanova Wildcats (odds)
Record: 15-14 Overall/9-9 Conference
Villanova has been in form of late. The Wildcats have won five of their last six games, including victories against the Xavier Musketeers and the Creighton Bluejays over their two most recent outings. Those two wins have given Villanova’s March Madness resume a massive boost, as the Musketeers and the Bluejays were top 25 teams at the time of the said meetings. Also part of Villanova’s current win streak is its 58-54 triumph over the Pirates at home on Feb. 11. The Wildcats shot 40% from behind the arc in that contest, so watch out for their outside shooting this Tuesday, especially since they just drained 9 of their 22 attempts from behind the arc in the win against Creighton.
Villanova is 5-1 against the spread in its last six games.
Betting on the Seton Hall Pirates (odds)
Record: 16-13 Overall/9-9 Conference
Seton Hall is moving in the opposite direction of Villanova, as it has lost both its last two games. It was taken down by the UConn Huskies on Feb. 18 on the road, 64-55, and then was defeated by the Musketeers at home last Friday, 82-60. If anything, Seton Hall will come into this rematch against Villanova with fresher legs, as the Pirates did not see any action over the weekend. Despite their recent struggles, the Pirates can always trust their defense. They are second in the Big East with just 99.0 points allowed per 100 possessions adjusted and second as well in defensive turnover rate. Center Tyrese Samuel figures to be a headache for Villanova, as the 6-10 senior had 14 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks in the previous meeting with the Wildcats.
Seton Hall is 5-5 against the spread in its last 10 outings.
Writer’s Prediction
Seton Hall wins, 68-64.
