Betting on the Villanova Wildcats (odds)
Record: (13-14 Overall/7-9 Conference
Villanova had its three-game win streak snapped last Saturday. Following consecutive wins against the DePaul Blue Demons, Seton Hall Pirates, and Butler Bulldogs, the Wildcats failed to sustain momentum as it lost to the Providence Friars over the weekend, 85-72. Nevertheless, a chance to rebound in a big way will come for Villanova this Tuesday. The Wildcats lost to Xavier at home last month, 88-80, but Cam Whitmore had quite a performance in that contest, scoring 26 points on 11/18 shooting. Caleb Daniels, meanwhile, dropped 23 points with four assists.
Villanova, which is fourth in the Big East with 50.8 eFG%, is 3-2 against the spread in its last five outings.
Betting on the Xavier Musketeers (odds)
Record: 20-7 Overall/12-4 Conference
After back-to-back losses to the Butler Bulldogs and to the Marquette Golden Eagles, the Musketeers prevented a three-game skid by downing the DePaul Blue Demons last Saturday at home, 82-68. All five starters of the Musketeers in that game scored in double figures, so that’s a good sign for the team heading into the rematch versus the Wildcats, whose defense Xavier torched in the first meeting for a 54.4 FG% and 47.4 3FG% (9/19) last January. The Musketeers, who have one of the highest-scoring offenses in the nation, got 29 and 22 points from Zach Freemantle and Souley Boum, respectively, in the first meeting with Villanova.
Xavier is 3-1 against the spread in its last four outings.
Writer’s Prediction
Xavier wins, 77-70.
