Betting on the Pittsburgh Steelers (+6.5)
Regular Season Record: 0-0
The Steelers’ offense was solid in 2020 but not in one particular area that used to be a strength of this team. That was in their ground attack, as Pittsburgh barely tried to run the ball at all, relatively speaking. In 2020, the Steelers were 31st in the NFL with a 34.52 rushing play percentage and last in the league with only 82.5 rushing yards per game. That should change for the better this season after the Steelers used a first-round pick on Alabama Crimson Tide program product Najee Harris. A more diverse point of attack on offense can stretch the field for Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers’ passing game.
The Steelers are 2-1 against the spread in their last three games. The over is 4-0 in their last four contests.
Betting on the Buffalo Bills (-6.5)
Regular Season Record: 0-0
Josh Allen is the man in Buffalo, which was underlined by a massive six-year, $258 million extension deal he signed with the team in August 2021. After leading the Bills to postseason appearances in the last two seasons, Allen surely deserves the huge contract, and getting a win in Week 1 at home against the Steelers will be a nice way to show Buffalo that the investment was the right decision. Last season, Allen passed for 4,544 yards and 37 touchdowns against 10 interceptions. On top of that, he also rushed for 421 yards and eight touchdowns. Pittsburgh’s defense was fantastic a year ago, but offseason losses have left the Steelers with a shallower depth on that end of the field. Buffalo’s offense that averaged nearly 30 points in 2020 could have a field day on Sunday.
The Bills are 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 games overall. They have also covered the spread in seven of their last 10 games as the home team.
Writer’s Prediction
The Bills win, 27-23.
