Regular Season Record: 0-0
Ben Roethlisberger barely played last season as he had to miss all but two games of the Steelers due to injury. But Big Ben is now healthy and appears to be ready to bring back the good times to Pittsburgh’s offense that averaged just 18.1 points per game in 2019. Roethlisberger will not be short of great players to work with on offense. Juju-Smith Schuster is among the best in the NFL and James Conner is someone who could deal damage via rushing or passing plays. Behind Smith-Schuster are two receivers who’ve proven themselves to be capable in 2019 in Diontae Jonson and James Washington. The Steelers have the offense to dominate the Giants’ defense that allowed 28.2 points per game last season. Still on defense, Pittsburgh’s stop unit was simply spectacular in 2019, almost singlehandedly bringing them to the playoffs despite lackluster quarterback play. The Steelers’ secondary unit was a nightmare for opposing offensive coordinators, with Minkah Fitzpatrick anchoring it.
The under is 8-2 in the Steelers’ last 10 games.
Betting on the New York Giants (+6)
Regular Season Record: 0-0
Daniel Jones now has the keys to the Giants’ offense right from the get-go, unlike last year when he had to wait for Eli Manning to hand it over to him. Jones’ protection unit has also improved from 2019. In 13 game appearances, including 12 starts in his rookie season, Jones compiled 3,027 passing yards and 24 touchdowns with 12 interceptions. He’s a quarterback expected to show improvement in his second year in the league. A better offensive line could also mean better run-blocking for Saquon Barkley, who rushed for 1,003 yards and six touchdowns in 13 games. As mentioned, the Steelers’ secondary is a tough unit to deal with, and it’s bound to make life hard for Jones. That focus on Jones could open up chances for Barkley on the ground.
The over is 4-0 in the Giants’ last four home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Steelers win, 28-20.
