Damian Lillard was absent the last time the Blazers faced San Antonio, but Portland still eked out a 111-110 victory at home on Jan. 7. Lillard could also be absent again against the Spurs this Saturday, as Portland might not want to risk aggravating his recent ankle injury this close to the playoffs. Should Lillard sit out, C.J. McCollum is going to be the primary offensive weapon of Portland. McCollum has averaged 19.0 points and  6.5 assists in two games vs. San Antonio this season. He had 25 in the January win against Gregg Popovich’s squad on 11-for-24 shooting with seven assists and two steals. As a team, the Blazers are averaging 106.1 points per game and giving up just 103.3 – fifth fewest in the league. Also, the Blazers are 2-1-1 ATS in its last four games against San Antonio.

Unlike Portland, the Spurs don’t have the luxury to rest players as they are yet to assure themselves of a playoff spot. The Spurs are coming off a 122-112 overtime road loss to Los Angeles on Wednesday. As what the score of the game suggests, the Spurs’ usually sturdy defense wavered against the Lakers. They are tops in the NBA with a 99.7 points allowed per game average, but let Kyle Kuzma and company score 108 points after four quarters.  The Spurs, however, limited Portland (with Damian Lillard) to just 91 points in a 93-91 road win on Dec. 20, when they also held the Blazers to just 39.6 percent shooting from the field. LaMarcus Aldridge, who scored 28 against the Lakers, is averaging 26.3 points in his last six games on an impressive 57.5 percent shooting from the floor. The Spurs are 8-2 SU and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 home games against Portland.

Writer’s Prediction:

San Antonio wins, 102-101.
