Purdue Boilermakers vs Iowa Hawkeyes Predictions, Picks, Odds and NCAA Basketball Betting Preview – January 20, 2018

No. 3 Purdue is on the rise. The Boilermakers are playing like March 1-seeds, and that’s not good news for Iowa, who is merely trying to avid finishing last in the Big Ten. A win for the Hawkeyes, however, could bring them back to March Madness talk. Register to bet and wager with your pick.

Betting on the Purdue Boilermakers (18-2)

The Purdue Boilermakers are starting to make loud noises (if they have not already) in college basketball, as they have become one of the best teams in the nation. That did not seem to be the case when they received back-to-back losses to the unranked pair of Tennessee and Western Kentucky, but the Boilermakers quickly found their groove, bouncing back from those losses with two-straight wins against No. 2 Arizona and No. 12 Louisville. Since then, the Boilermakers have not lost a game (pending the Wisconsin contest on Tuesday). They are 5-0 SU and 4-1 ATS in their last five road games. Purdue boasts of a balanced offense and defense that was very well manifested during their 81-47 decimation of the Minnesota Gophers on Jan. 13. The Boilermakers are 15th in the nation in scoring (85.0) and ninth in defense with only 62.7 points allowed per game.

Betting on the Iowa Hawkeyes (10-9)

It’s safe to say that the Hawkeyes are going nowhere this season, mostly because their defense is whack. They are giving up 76.2 points per game – the most in the conference. The same can’t be said about their offense, however. Iowa is generating 81.9 points per game and is shooting 48.3 percent from the field.

Iowa is an aggressive team on offense, which is why the Hawkeyes makes a ton of trip the foul line each game. In their 104-97 win over Illinois on Jan. 11, the Hawkeyes went 33-for-40 from the foul line, while the Fighting Illini were only 11-for-14 from the charity stripe. Iowa is likely going to try to put Purdue’s top players into foul trouble early, and if that happens, the Hawkeyes will have more confidence on offense.

Iowa is 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS in its last four home game against Purdue, so the location seems to be a real advantage for the Hawkeyes.

Writer’s Prediction:

Purdue wins, 87-71.
