Betting on RB Leipzig (+285)

It’s been quite a debut Bundesliga season for RB Leipzig. Die Rotten Bullen have secured Champions League qualification for next season, and need just a point from their last two games to seal second place in the league behind Bayern. After going winless in March, Leipzig have since gone seven games unbeaten, with five wins and two draws.

Although their matchup against Bayern will be tough, Leipzig should at least have a fighting chance since they’ll be at home. Leipzig have gone 12-2-2 with 31 goals scored and 11 goals against at home this season. They’ve gone unbeaten in their last four home games (three wins, one draw), and haven’t conceded in over 441 minutes.

And up front, striker Timo Werner is having a strong end to his breakout season. The 21-year-old is the team’s top scorer with 19 goals in 27 games, and has bagged four in his last four games.

Betting on Bayern Munich (-119)

Newly-crowned champions Bayern Munich had a bit of a title-winning hangover against Darmstadt. After thrashing Wolfsburg 6-0 to clinch the title, they could only beat the bottom club Darmstadt 1-0 despite fielding a strong team. But on the bright side, they still kept another clean sheet—their third in four games—and they did it without injured goalie Manuel Neuer. 36-year-old Tom Starke should continue to deputize for Neuer against Leipzig.

Bayern also kept a clean sheet against Leipzig in a 3-0 win back in December, which gave Bayern the lead they would not relinquish for the rest of the year. Even without Neuer, their chances of doing so again should still be fairly decent with Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels likely to start at center-back in front of Starke.

Robert Lewandowski scored a penalty in that win, one of his league-leading 28 goals this season. He’s still locked in a tie with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, though, so look for Lewandowski to continue searching for even more goals to make the top scorer award his own.

Bayern haven’t quite been as dominant away from home as they have been at the Allianz Arena, but their 11-3-2 away record and nine goals conceded are still far and away better than anyone else.

Writer’s Prediction

Bayern (-119) remind the rest of the Bundesliga that they are miles ahead of the competition as they beat second-place Leipzig 3-1.
