Betting on the Sacramento Kings (TBA)
Despite continuing tweaks to his lineup, Kings head coach Dave Joerger still can’t quite seem to find the winning combination in Sacramento. The Kings (7-12) have now dropped three of their last four games after a 97-92 loss to the Boston Celtics.
DeMarcus Cousins put up more impressive numbers with 28 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 blocks, but he was just 10-of-26 from the field. His streak of four consecutive games with at least 30 points was also cut short.
Cousins and co. should look forward to their upcoming trip to Madison Square Garden, though. MSG has been one of the rare buildings where the Kings have had consistent success over the past few years. They are 7-2 SU and ATS in their last nine visits to the Big Apple.
Cousins is a mismatch problem for any team because of his ability to bully players in side as well as his ability to stroke it from deep. (He’s shooting 38 percent on threes this year.) He should be able to feast wherever he decides to play against a Knicks frontline which recently surrendered 47 points and 18 rebounds to Karl-Anthony Towns.
Betting on the New York Knicks (TBA)
The New York Knicks (10-9) are now on a mini two-game win streak after sweeping a home-and-home series against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Kristaps Porzingis came up big with 29 points and 8 rebounds in their win in Game 1, which Carmelo Anthony secured with a clutch go-ahead jumper with just seconds remaining. And in Game 2, Anthony, Derrick Rose, and Kyle O’Quinn all scored at least 20 points to beat the Wolves at MSG.
O’Quinn has done a serviceable job filling in for Joakim Noah, who missed both games against the Wolves due to injury. However, Noah is back in practice and could make his return against Sacramento. Guard Courtney Lee also missed the second Wolves game due to an ankle injury, and is still questionable to return.
Regardless of who plays, the fact remains Madison Square Garden has been an absolute fortress for the Knicks this season. They are an impressive 8-3 at home (the second-best home record in the East) and have lost just once since dropping their first two home games of the season.
Writer’s Prediction
The Kings beat the Knicks again at MSG, 108-102.
