Betting on the San Antonio Spurs (-2.5)
There’s just no stopping San Antonio right now. The Spurs extended their winning streak to seven games with a thrilling 119-114 victory over the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday. Five players scored in double-figures for the Spurs who moved two games clear of the Memphis Grizzlies atop the Southwest Division standings.
Leading the way for the Spurs in this game was Kawhi Leonard. He is truly playing like an MVP for San Antonio, dropping a game-high 30 points against Charlotte. Leonard has been superb for the five-time NBA champions, averaging 25.1 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game this season.
The Spurs will look to sustain the momentum of that huge win when they lock horns with the Boston Celtics this coming Friday. They will fancy their chances of doing just that as they have fared extremely well on the road of late. The Spurs are unbeaten through their first eight road games this season. They have scored at least 100 points in each of their travels this campaign.
The Spurs are 8-2 SU and 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 road games against the Celtics.
Betting on the Boston Celtics (+2.5)
One team that’s also playing well at the moment is Boston. The Celtics stretched their unbeaten run to three games with an emphatic 111-92 victory over the Brooklyn Nets. Isaiah Thomas scored 23 points for the Celtics who have now won six of their last eight games. The Celtics clearly have benefited with the return of Al Horford to the starting lineup. Horford scored 17 points against the Nets as Boston improved to 5-1 with the big man in the lineup.
Things are bound to get tougher, though, for the Celtics as standing in their way in the next game are the mighty San Antonio Spurs. Since sweeping the 2010-11 season series against San Antonio, the Celtics have lost nine consecutive games to the Spurs. For the Celtics to end that long losing streak to the Spurs, they will need to keep up their excellent play on the offensive end. The Celtics are averaging 101.3 points over their last three games. They displayed that offensive brilliance in the win against the Nets, shooting 45.9 percent from the field. They will have their work cut out for them, however, against a San Antonio defense that’s allowing just 98.3 points per game this season, sixth-fewest in the NBA.
The Celtics are 7-3 SU and 6-4 ATS in their last 10 home games.
