Betting on the San Antonio Spurs (15-4)
The San Antonio Spurs preserved their unbeaten home record with an emphatic 95-70 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night. Tim Duncan led the way for the Spurs, scoring a game-high 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Duncan has been solid on both ends of the floor for San Antonio, averaging 19.4 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists this season.
[sc:NBA240banner ]Key to the Spurs’ hot start this campaign has been their phenomenal defense. San Antonio is first in the NBA in scoring defense, allowing a measly 88.8 points per game this season. That impregnable defense was in full display Wednesday against Milwaukee where they held the Bucks to a season-low 70 points on a horrid 33.8 percent shooting from the field.
They will look to replicate that performance when they take on the Grizzlies tonight. The Spurs will have their work cut out for them, however, against a Memphis side that’s averaging 103.6 points over its last five games. The Spurs will take comfort in the fact, though, that they have fared extremely well against the Grizzlies on the road of late. The Spurs have won five of their last six games against the Grizzlies at FedExForum. San Antonio has covered the spread in four of those six games.
For the Spurs to extend that dominance tonight, they will need Kawhi Leonard to continue his excellent play. Leonard had 13 points in the win against Milwaukee. He leads San Antonio in scoring this season, averaging 22.2 points per contest.
The Spurs are 5-4 ATS on the road this season.

Betting on the Memphis Grizzlies (11-8)
The Memphis Grizzlies extended their winning streak to two games with a thrilling 113-104 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday night. Marc Gasol led the way for the Grizzlies in this contest, scoring a career-high 38 points to go with 13 rebounds and four blocks. That performance was quite unexpected as he has struggled mightily for the Grizzlies of late. Gasol twice failed to score in double digits and never posted more than 15 points in his previous five games.
Key to the Grizzlies’ sudden resurgence has been their phenomenal offense. The Grizzlies have now scored more than 100 points in four of their last five outings. Memphis is 4-1 during this stretch. That’s quite surprising for the Grizzlies who are known more for their defensive qualities.
They will look to continue their hot shooting ways when they take on the San Antonio Spurs later tonight. The Grizzlies will have their work cut out for them, however, against the Spurs who are playing some excellent defense this season. The five-time NBA champions are third in the NBA in field goal percentage defense with opponents shooting at a lowly 41.8 percent clip this season.
The Grizzlies are 3-6 ATS at home this season.
Writer’s Prediction
The Spurs (-2.5) escape with a narrow 95-92 win.
