Betting on the San Antonio Spurs

San Antonio’s season is suddenly heading south. The Spurs have lost four straight games and five straight on the road. They haven’t lost five straight overall since they had a six-game slide in 2010-2011. The Spurs’ tight defense has seemingly disappeared. They have allowed 107.5 points and 48.6 percent shooting since the break, despite allowing just 97.5 points on 45 percent shooting for the season.

[sc:NBA240banner ]The Spurs’ problems have also extended on offense, especially with Tony Parker still hampered by a hamstring injury. Parker has totalled just nine points, going 3-for-21 in the past three games.

Yet, a showdown with Sacramento may be the spark the Spurs point guard needs to shake off the rust. Parker has averaged 15.5 points on 15-of-29 shooting in two games against the Kings this season. Even his running mate, Manu Ginobili, has done a swell job against Sacramento this season averaging 14 points and 6.5 assists.

Three-point shooting can give the Spurs the edge they need to end their losing streak. They’ve shot 40 percent from downtown over their two games against the Kings. Danny Green should lead San Antonio in this regard after burying 5-of-7 threes in the season series.

The Spurs are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games at Sacramento.

Betting on the Sacramento Kings

Rudy Gay

The Sacramento Kings are sailing smoothly with new head coach George Karl behind the wheel, at least at home. They defeated Boston 109-101 and upset Memphis 102-90, covering the spread on both games. Overall, the Kings are 3-0 SU/ATS in their last three at home.

Despite their recent solid outings at home, beating the defending champions for a second time at Sleep Train Arena may be a tall task for the Kings. They may miss a banged up DeMarcus Cousins due to a sprained left ankle and bruised left hip.

Cousins was the decisive factor in Sacramento’s 94-91 home win against San Antonio on November 15, scoring 21 of his 25 points in the second half of the contest.

The Kings can trust in Rudy Gay, though. He’s averaged 20.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and seven assists in the season series against the Spurs despite matching up against San Antonio’s defensive standout, Kawhi Leonard.

While the Kings may miss top rebounder Cousins (12.6 per game), they may still be able to dominate the boards against the Spurs. San Antonio has been outrebounded by an average of 44.3-40.8 in its four-game losing streak. The Kings holds the rebound edge in the season series, 88-71.

The Kings are 4-2 ATS in their last six games overall.

Writer’s Prediction

The Spurs get back on the winning column. Take San Antonio to win and cover.
