Betting on the San Jose Sharks (46-27-9 Regular Season)
Where would the Sharks be without Logan Couture? Don’t answer that. That’s a rhetorical question we have to ask following the center’s explosive performance in Game 3 in which he posted a hat trick to help San Jose get a 4-2 win and recapture the series lead against the Avalanche. The Sharks have been the most prolific scoring team in the playoffs, as they currently have 35 goals – six more than any team that made the postseason. The center position has been tremendous for San Jose of late. Apart from Couture, Tomas Hertl is also having a nice playoffs. He is second on the team – behind Couture – in playoff goals with six to go with four assists and three power play goals. Couture and Hertl has eight goals combined over the past five games. The Sharks could also get more depth back to the center slot if Joe Pavelski (injury) will be cleared to play for Game 4. He is currently designated with a day-to-day label.
The under is 2-0-1 in San Jose’s last three road games.
Betting on the Colorado Avalanche (38-30-14 Regular Season)
The Avs saw their eight-game winning streak at home end on Tuesday, but they can start another one this Thursday. That’s when they look to rebound from the disappointing loss in Game 3 in which their physicality didn’t translate to a victory. The Avs outhit San Jose by a huge margin, 41-20, and still got outshot, 31-27. Colorado needs to be better in controlling the puck after giving it away 10 times in Game 3 to just six times by San Jose. Avs center Nathan McKinnon, meanwhile, extended his point streak to seven games with a strike in Game 3, tying Peter Forsberg for the longest such streak by an Avs player since 2004. McKninnon now has two goals in the last five games to go with six assists. He leads the team with five goals (tied with Mikko Rantanen) and 12 points.
Colorado, which is leading all playoff teams with 36.5 shots attempts per game, is 8-2 in its last 10 home games. On the season, the Avalanche are 43-47-0 against the spread (ATS).
Writer’s Prediction
San Jose wins, 2-1.
