Betting on the San Jose Sharks (46-27-9 Regular Season)

Logan Couture showed up for the Sharks in Game 2. Unfortunately, most of his teammates didn’t, and he felt he had to call them out following San Jose’s 4-2 loss at home on Monday. Couture didn’t like the energy and effort displayed by the Sharks. While Couture didn’t mention a name, he definitely will be glad if goalie Martin Jones will revert back to his dominant self following a letdown performance. Jones surrendered four goals on 25 shots faced. Jones is 9-6 with a 2.83 GAA and .905 saves percentage in 16 games played so far in the playoffs. Despite Couture’s resentment towards his team, the Sharks’ penalty kill was fantastic in blanking St. Louis in all if its five power play opportunities. The Sharks even scored a shorthanded goal in the second period. But that numerous power play chances the Sharks gave St. Louis was emblematic of what Couture did not like about his team in Game 2. The Sharks need to be more disciplined in containing the Sharks instead of settling for lazy plays that result in penalties. Couture, who finished the game with two goals, has scored four goals in the last five games.

The under is 3-1-1 in San Jose’s last five road games.

Betting on the St. Louis Blues (45-28-9 Regular Season)

Sometimes, an NHL team just have to ride the hot hand. That seems to be exactly what the Blues are doing, as they continue to enjoy a surge in offensive production by Jaden Schwartz. The left winger only had 11 goals in the regular season, but now has 13 goals in the playoffs after scoring once again in Game 2 of the series against San Jose. Schwartz leads all St. Louis players with nine goals to go with four assists for a total of 13 points – the best among any Blues in the postseason thus far. As big of a blessing Schwartz has been to St. Louis lately, the team will have to start, at some point, getting consistent production from the players they were supposed to be netting a lot from.  Brayden Schenn and Vladimir Tarasenko have been quiet of late, combining for zero goals and two assists in the last five games. Despite their anemic performance, they should continue firing the puck. The Blues need them to be active and aggressive to keep San Jose’s defense on its toes.

St. Louis is 4-2 in its last six home games.

Writer’s Prediction

St. Louis wins, 4-3.
