Betting on the San Jose Sharks (46-27-9 Regular Season)
For the first time since the first round of the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Sharks lost in back-to-back fashion after getting drowned by St. Louis in a 5-0 loss in Game 5. The Sharks got manhandled in that contest. They were outshot and outsmarted by St. Louis, which had its fangs flashed from the start to the end of the contest. It’s troubling for the Sharks to see themselves not being able to score a goal, with all their firepower and an offense that is averaging 3.0 goals per game in the playoffs. Hoping that the Sharks could get their attack back in usual form for Game 6 also depends partly in the health of some of their key players in Erik Karlsson and Tomas Hertl, who both weren’t able to finish Game 5 due to injuries. Any absence by the two in Game 6 will put more pressure on the Sharks’ top line of Timo Meier, Logan Couture, and Gustav Nyquist. The three players have seven goals over the last five games.
The under is 6-3-1 in the Sharks’ last 10 road games.
Betting on the St. Louis Blues (45-28-9 Regular Season)
Almost everything went St. Louis’ way in Game 5, as what the score suggests. Netminder Jordan Binnington added to his sparkling playoff resume as a rookie by turning away all 21 shots he faced. Meanwhile, he got lots of support from the Blues’ offense, particularly from the rejuvenated first line. Jaden Schwartz reawakened in Game 5 and went on a three-goal tear. Vladimir Tarasenko also had his second goal of the season. With that kind of momentum and the manner they demoralized San Jose in the last game, the odds are clearly in St. Louis. That’s not to mention they can clinch a spot in the 2019 Stanley Cup Finals at home. The Blues outshot San Jose in Game 5, 40-21, but left much to be desired of their special teams play after going just 1-for-8 on the power play.
St. Louis is 5-5 in its last 10 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
St. Louis wins, 3-2.
