Betting on the Seattle Seahawks

Leave it to the Seahawks rookies to seize the opportunity of showing Seattle’s upper management why it wasn’t wrong in selecting them in the draft.

Unfortunately, the Seahawks’ first-round pick and defensive tackle Malik McDowell won’t be available this Sunday following an ATV accident last month.

Well, at least the Seahawks’ second pick in the draft, center/guard Ethan Pocic was not part of that ATV adventure as the former LSU Tiger is healthy and would be suiting up for the team this Sunday. Pocic could make a case to be starter right out of a gate if he could turn in a strong performance this preseason. Seattle’s offensive line didn’t do a solid job of protecting Russell Wilson last season, as the team allowed 42 sacks in 2016—sixth most in the league.

Still on offense, another rookie, running back Chris Carson out of Oklahoma State, has reportedly flashed promising talent during practices, so he too is going to be a man to watch over at the Seahawks’ side. The Seahawks’ running back position appears to be set with Thomas Rawls and Eddie Lacy, but their inability to stay healthy for an entire season gives Carson added motivation to prove he’s deserves a higher spot on the depth chart.

Betting on the Los Angeles Chargers

This is not just an ordinary preseason game for the Chargers. After all, it’s the franchise’s first competitive NFL game since moving to Los Angeles.

It’s a bit of a letdown that the Chargers won’t have their first pick in the 2017 NFL Draft in this game just like the Seahawks. Rookie wide receiver Mike Williams is having back troubles, which, according to head coach Anthony Lynn, could force the Clemson product to miss the entire season ahead. That’s a real bummer for the Chargers, who dealt with numerous injuries to key players last season, including top wideout, Keenan Allen.

In any case, that’s not an excuse for the Chargers’ quarterbacks when they take the field against the Seahawks. Philip Rives won’t be there but Kellen Clemens and Mike Bercovici are both ready to handle the rock under center. Clemens has been the team’s main backup since 2014, but Bercovici still has time to make a case for that same gig.

Writer’s Prediction

The Chargers (-1.5) win, 24-21.
