Serena Williams’ Edge (-1,000)

Can Serena Williams be stopped? That’s the question on everyone’s lips ahead of her quarterfinal clash with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. With her straight-sets win against Svetlana Kuznetsova in the round of 16, Williams extended her winning streak in the Wimbledon Championships to a whopping 11 matches. Serena is now an incredible 83-10 at the All England Club.

Williams will fancy her chances of extending that excellent form against Pavlyuchenkova as she has fared extremely well against the Russian of late. The world no. 1 is unbeaten in five career matches against Pavlyuchenkova with the 21-time Grand Slam champion winning in straight sets in each of their last four meetings. Williams defeated Pavlyuchenkova in their last showdown in the Rome Masters back in 2015, 6-1, 6-3.

Williams is 9-1 in her last 10 matches.

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova’s Edge (+600)

For Pavlyuchenkova to grab the massive upset against Williams, she will need to continue her excellent play on the receiving end. She won 49 percent of her receiving points in her fourth-round win against Coco Vandeweghe with Pavlyuchenkova converting five of her nine break point chances. Pavlyuchenkova will also take comfort in the fact that she’s serving the ball beautifully in this year’s tournament. She put into play 75 percent of her first serves against Vandeweghe with Pavlyuchenkova winning 64 percent of those points.

That being said, Pavlyuchenkova has to be aggressive right from the get-go for the Russian to stand a chance against the reigning Wimbledon champion. She will need to put pressure on the world no. 1 and she can do that by employing her highly-effective net play. She won seven of her 11 net points in the previous round against Vandeweghe.

Pavlyuchenkova is 6-4 in her last 10 matches.

Writer’s Prediction: Serena (-1,000) destroys Pavlyuchenkova in straight sets.
