No. 6 Midwest – Seton Hall Pirates (Overall: 25-8, Conf: 12-6)
Kevin Willard is finally going to the NCAA National Tournament as head coach of Seton Hall after failing to do so over the past five seasons. And he has Isaiah Whitehead and the team’s defense to thank for feeling much more secure about job security. Whitehead (18.1 PPG, 5.0 APG) stepped up this season and has proven to be the floor leader the Pirates need. The defense, on the other hand, is what really blows their opponents away. Seton Hall is 65th in the nation in scoring defense (67.8 PPG) and 28th in opponents’ shooting percentage 40.0%. KenPom has the Pirates 15th in adjusted defensive efficiency. The Pirates are also very hard to score on in the paint with opponents making just 49.5% of their shots at the rim—fifth best in the Division I. Teams without good outside shooting to fall back on are in for a long day versus Seton Hall.Create a betting account now and cash in on all the NCAAB action.
Team Weaknesses:
The Pirates went just 7-6 in games decided by eight points or fewer prior to the Big East tourney. That could’ve been much better if they only took full advantage of their trips to the charity stripe. See, the Pirates are shooting 67.0% from the free throw line, which is bad enough to be ranked 286th overall. They’re also not doing well shooting three-pointers with Seton Hall knocking only 6.1 triples per game on a mediocre 35.4% clip.
