Betting on the South Carolina Gamecocks (10-7 Overall / 2-2 Conference)

The Gamecocks are not in love with the 3-ball this season. You can say that based on the fact that they are only 271st in the nation with a 30.9 percent shooting from deep this season while also taking just 5.6 attempts from behind the arc — 294th overall. But that certainly was not the case in their last game, as the Gamecocks stepped out of their character and went 16 for 30 from deep — an astounding 53.3 percent shooting for that kind of volume — in their 81-67 road win over the Texas A&M Aggies last Saturday. It’s unlikely fo the Gamecocks to sustain that kind of hot shooting from long range, but they might as well strike while the iron is hot. Auburn will be on its toes, likely closing out hard on the Gamecocks’ shooters early in their matchup, which should open up wider driving lanes for the likes of AJ Lawson and Jermaine Couisnard. Lawson leads the Gamecocks with 13.8 points per game, while Couisnard is putting up 10.6.

The Gamecocks, who are scoring 69.9 points per game, are 3-0 against the spread (ATS) in their last three outings.

Betting on the Auburn Tigers (15-2 Overall / 3-2 Conference)

The Tigers have seemingly hit a slump. There’s no reason to push the panic button for Auburn, but the team has lost its last two games; The Tigers were defeated by the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, 83-63, last Wednesday, then got taken down by the Florida Gators in Gainesville last Saturday, 69-47. Auburn is not shooting well of late. After shooting just 31.7 percent from the floor against Alabama, the Tigers did worse with a 25.5 field goal shooting percentage against Florida. At some point, the Tigers will be recovering their shooting touch, and that could come this Thursday at home. Both the Tigers’ last two games were on the road, and going back to a familiar atmosphere could just be the cure to their shooting woes. On the season, the Tigers are averaging 78.9 points per game, 15th in the nation, on 44.8 field goal percentage.

The Tigers are 10-0 straight-up (5-5 ATS) in their last 10 games as the home team.

Writer’s Prediction

Auburn wins, 76-68.
