Betting on the Syracuse Orange (2-1, 0-0 ACC)

Point Spread: +22

Syracuse bounced back from its shock home defeat at the hands of Middle Tennessee to crush Central Michigan, 41-17.

Quarterback Eric Dungey went off for 384 total yards (105 on the ground) and accounted for three touchdowns. The Orange had 579 total yards of offense, with the running game accounting for 300 of those yards.

However, turnovers have remained a problem for the Orange offense. They gave up three more takeaways against the Chippewas, making it seven in their first three games, which is very concerning.

Thankfully, the defense has been able to get the ball back seven times as well. The Orange have also been outstanding on third downs this season. They’re allowing opponents to convert just 16 percent of third downs, which is sixth in the country.

With LSU’s struggles on offense, a strong defensive effort from the Orange could easily see them hang in there with the Tigers in Death Valley.

Betting on the LSU Tigers (2-1, 0-1 SEC)

Point Spread: -22

LSU was simply bullied on both sides of the ball in their shock 37-7 defeat to Mississippi State. With Derrius Guice and the O-line unable to break through on the ground, they struggled to get anything going offensively, which is no surprise. What was surprising was the usually stout LSU defense getting gashed for 285 rushing yards. They also allowed the Bulldogs to go 7-of-13 on third downs.

Meanwhile, the Tigers could be in even more trouble as Guice, who is by far their best offensive weapon, is very questionable to play against Syracuse after missing multiple practices due to an undisclosed injury.

But even if Guice can’t go, LSU should still be primed and motivated to put on a much better performance than what they showed against Mississippi State. They should be able to create more holes against Syracuse’s front for senior running back Darrel Williams. Williams has had a solid season to date. He’s averaging a healthy 5.7 yards per carry with four rushing touchdowns.

Meanwhile, the defense will also be looking to make up for their showing last week. This group is still incredibly talented and should be capable of getting intense pressure on Syracuse quarterback Eric Dungey.

Writer’s Prediction

LSU (-22) bounces back to beat up Syracuse, 35-10.
