Tennessee Titans vs Buffalo Bills Predictions, Picks, Odds and Betting Preview – NFL Week 5 – October 7 2018

The Titans are coming into their own, enjoying a three-game winning streak as Marcus Mariota gets healthier by the day, and he’s clearly feeling more comfortable in Matt LaFleur’s offense as the team leads the AFC South into Week 5 of the season. The Bills on the other hand, have dropped down in power rankings across the board as they got shut out by the Green Bay Packers in Week 4. It’s as if their fluke win against the Vikings in Week 3 never actually happened.

NFL Futures currently price the Titans at +3500 to win Super Bowl 53, +1500 to win the AFC Championship, and +275 to win the AFC South Division. The long shot Bills, are given +100000 to win the Super Bowl, +50000 to win the AFC Championship, and +6000 to win the AFC East Division. It’s no wonder the Titans are favorites in this meeting, even if on the road. In this writer’s opinion, the spread should be bigger – capitalize accordingly bettors!

Betting on the Tennessee Titans (3-1)

In their Week 4 game against the Eagles, the Titans trailed by 14 in the third quarter, then 23-20 in overtime, before rallying for the win. Mariota, elbow injury be damned, was awesome, throwing for 344 yards and two TDs while also running for a score. Running back Derrick Henry contributed with 24 rushing yards to overtake Dion Lewis for the team lead in rushing (163 yards total). Receiver Corey Davis delivered 161 receiving yards against the Eagles bringing his season tally to 312 receiving yards, making him someone the Bill’s defense will need to keep a keen eye on. While the Titans’ offense has been fairly modest when it comes to putting up big numbers (averaging 18.8 points) so far this season, they indeed put them up when they count the most. On the defensive end, their sixth in the league in holding opponents to just 18.2 points.

On the season thus far, the Titans are both 1-1 straight up (SU) and against the spread (ATS) when playing on the road.

Betting on the Buffalo Bills (1-3)

The Bills got embarrassed and outplayed by the Packers in Week 4, being shut out with a final score of 22-0. While rookie QB Josh Allen shined in his Week 3 outing against the Vikings, his freshman colors showed as he failed to show this past Sunday. Allen recorded just 151 passing yards that were compounded by two interceptions. Running back LeSean McCoy returned to the lineup with a thud after missing Week 3, adding just 24 rushing yards to an abysmal 85 rushing yard total for the season. McCoy is day-to-day and may not return for the Bills’ stint against the Titans unless this hand is feeling much better, otherwise he’s more of a distraction than anything. Buffalo’s leading wide receiver Zay Jones pulled in 38 receiving yards against the Packers, taking him to 144 receiving yards for the season. Their Minnesota fluke aside, the Bills offense (12.5 point average, counting the Vikings win) has been non-existent here at the onset of their 2018-19 campaign. It needs to show up this Sunday against the Titans because the Bills’ are also giving up 26.5 points on defense, so they need to pull it together somewhere.

Heading into this Week 5 game, the Bills are both 0-1 SU and ATS when playing from the comforts of home.

Writer’s Prediction

Mariota lifts the Titans to a win (and cover) over the ailing Bills. With sportsbooks giving the Titans -3.5 points, bettors wagering accordingly are getting a steal.
