Betting on the Texas Tech Red Raiders (odds)
Record: 17-9 Overall / 9-8 Conference
Texas Tech was also supposed to enter the Big 12 tournament on the heels of a win streak, but after stitching together three victories in a row, the Red Raiders got taken down by the Baylor Bears in Waco on Mar. 7, 88-73. There’s no shame in losing to the Bears, who are virtual locks to be seeded No. 1 in the 2021 March Madness. But whatever pride was lost in that game by the Red Raiders, they can easily regain it by looking back at their two wins over Texas this season. The Red Raiders also defeated Texas on Feb. 27 in Lubbock, 68-59. The Red Raiders’ relentless ball pressure has been a big problem for Texas. The Red Raiders had a +8 differential in turnovers in the first win over Texas then had a +1 in the second meeting. That’s how effective Texas Tech’s defense has been this season. The team finished the regular season 23rd nationally with 15.9 turnovers forced per game.
Texas Tech is 3-1 against the spread in its last four games overall.
Betting on the Texas Longhorns (odds)
Record: 17-7 Overall / 11-6 Conference
Shaka Smart’s Longhorns are heating up just in time for the Big 12 tournament. After losing to Texas Tech in Lubbock back on Feb. 27, 68-59, the Longhorns have racked up three victories in a row to end their conference play schedule. The last time they were on the court, the Longhorns beat up the TCU Horned Frogs, 76-64, on the road. All of the Longhorns’ games in their current win streak have been on the road, so a neutral-site contest this coming Thursday seems to be a good sign for them, trend-wise. The Longhorns have shot 51.3 percent from the field and 45.9 percent from deep over their last three games. Texas nearly beat the Red Raiders back in January at home, when the Longhorns shot 54 percent from the field and hit 13 of 25 from deep. With how Texas is stroking the ball lately, the Longhorns could be a bigger problem this time around for Texas Tech.
Texas is 3-0 against the spread in its last three games overall.
