Betting on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (17-10)
Tulsa has played five against top 50 RPI teams so far and lost to all of them. This Sunday, they get another shot at beating one when they swing by Newport to face Cincinnati, which is the Golden Hurricane’s biggest challenge for this entire season. Tulsa should be expecting a suffocating defense from the Bearcats, so the Golden Hurricane must value each and every possession. Tulsa, however, is just averaging 73.9 points per game on just 43.3 percent from the field.
It’s unlikely that the Golden Hurricanes would be able to put a big dent on Cincy’s defense, but they could just go with the flow of Cincinnati’s slow pace and strike whenever the opportunity comes. Forcing the issue on offense might just result to more turnovers for Tulsa, which is committing 13.0 errors per outing. The Golden Hurricane get to the line a lot of times, though, as they are 21st in the nation with 17.2 free throws made per game on 23.7 attempts (26th). Tulsa is 3-1 ATS in its last four road games.
Betting on the Cincinnati Bearcats (23-4)
One thing you could say about the Bearcats this season is that they are unforgiving on defense. They take away an extra gear from opposing teams’ offenses, allowing just 57.1 points per game. That’s the second fewest points allowed per game in the nation, and that’s also the same type of defense that’s probably making Tulsa sweating bullets just thinking about it. The Bearcats limit their opponents to only 37.1 percent shooting from the field, meaning it’ll be harder than usual for Tulsa to score in this game. The Golden Hurricane are not a great scoring team in the first place as mentioned earlier, and pairing them with the Bearcats could seem overkill on paper.
That being said, the Bearcats have to be careful on defense, as they are being called for 16.1 personal fouls per game. Tulsa can sometime live only by making those bonus shots, so avoiding some unnecessary fouls could make the Bearcats avoid at least a scare from the Golden Hurricane. Cincinnati is 5-1 SU and 4-2 ATS in its last six meetings with Tulsa.
Writer’s Prediction
