Betting on the UNLV Rebels (1-1)
UNLV finally barged into the win column with an emphatic 44-16 victory over the Idaho Vandals on Saturday. It was a critical victory for the Rebels, who suffered an embarrassing 43-40 loss to Howard at home last weekend. That result was one of the biggest upsets in college history as UNLV lost to a 45-point underdog.
UNLV will look to record a monumental upset of its own when they take on No. 10 Ohio State this coming Saturday. The Rebels will have their work cut out for them, however, against the Buckeyes who have won 14 of their last 16 home games. For UNLV to record a major shock and cover the huge 40.5-point spread against Ohio State, it needs to get a huge performance from running back Lexington Thomas.
He went berserk against the Idaho defense, rushing for a career-high 190 yards and three touchdowns. UNLV’s ground game was in full flow against Idaho as they out-rushed the Vandals, 357 yards to 123. Maintaining that attack will be easier said than done, though, against Ohio State’s defensive line. The Buckeyes are 51st in the FBS in rushing defense, allowing 126.7 yards per game on the ground this season.
The Rebels are 2-8 SU and 4-6 ATS in their last 10 road games.
Betting on the Ohio State Buckeyes (2-1)
Ohio State returned to winning ways Saturday with a resounding 38-7 victory over the Army Black Knights at Ohio Stadium. It was a huge bounce-back win for the Buckeyes, who suffered a humiliating 31-16 defeat to rivals Oklahoma the previous weekend. With the victory, Ohio State improved its record this season to 2-1.
Leading the way for the Buckeyes in this pivotal victory was running back J.K. Dobbins. The true freshman ripped apart the Army defense, rushing for 172 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Dobbins’ collegiate career is off to a great start, ranking second in the Big Ten with 141.7 rushing yards per contest. Dobbins ranks 11th in the nation and second among freshmen in that department, trailing only Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor (146.0).
Dobbins and the rest of the Buckeyes will wrap up their non-conference slate when they host the UNLV Rebels this coming Saturday. One guy who needs to step up for Ohio State in this matchup is J.T. Barrett. He rebounded from his poor performance against the Sooners, accounting for 302 yards and three touchdowns in the win against Army. Barrett, who’s now the number one touchdown maker in the history of the Big Ten Conference, will look to inflict some damage against a UNLV secondary that’s 50th in the FBS in passing defense, allowing 200.5 yards per game through the air this season.
The Buckeyes are 4-6 ATS in their last 10 home games.
