Betting on the Vegas Golden Knights (+1.5)

Is Marc-Andre Fleury getting a little fatigued? That’s not a serious point of concern for the Golden Knights yet, but after a 4-2 loss in Game 1, it could be to some. Fleury allowed all four Jets goals on just 26 shots faced. That said, it’s only one game and Fleury is a veteran who definitely knows hot to get into a right mindset following a loss. Also, the Knights will have to play more disciplined in this series since the Jets are among the best in the league on the man advantage having finished the regular season in power play success percentage; Winnipeg went scored two power play goals on four attempts in Game 1. On the flipside, the Golden Knights went 1-for-2 on the power play on Saturday. Fleury should still be in front of the net this Monday.

Vegas is 4-2 in its last six road games.

Betting on the Winnipeg Jets (-1.5)

Further proving that they’re the best Jets team in North American pro sports today, Winnipeg resorted to an early barrage of scores and solid netminding from Connor Hellebuyck in the series opener. The Jets scored three of their four goals in the game in the opening period and added another in the second, while Hellebuyck turned away 19 shots. Hellebuyck should also thank his teammates in front of him for limiting Vegas’ scoring opportunities. Vegas is averaging 30.3 shots per game in the playoffs but only got 21 in Game 1. Mark Scheifele also added to his team-leading playoffs total of 13 goals with a power play score in the second period. Defenseman Dustin Byfuglien flexed his muscle on both ends of the ice with a goal and an assist.

The Jets are 8-2 in their last 10 home games.

Writer’s Prediction:

Vegas wins, 3-2.
