Betting on the Washington Nationals (13-5)
The Nationals are going streaking. By downing the Mets Sunday night, 6-3, Washington has extended its win streak to seven games and will look to prolong it further when the team pays Colorado a visit.
On the mound for the Nationals later tonight is Joe Ross, who’s making just his second start of the season. Ross made his season debut against Atlanta on Apr. 19, giving up three earned runs on six hits with seven strikeouts in a 14-4 win. The huge run support behind Ross allowed him to pitch relaxed but he’ll have to be on point tonight against Colorado’s powerful bats.
Ross’ teammates aren’t too shabby at the plate either. The Nationals are tops in the majors in batting average and on on-base percentage. Bryce Harper and Ryan Zimmerman are going to wield their bats that have been great against lefty pitchers. Colorado’s parading lefty Tyler Anderson tonight, giving Harper a chance to improve on his .700 (7-for-10) batting average against southpaws this season. Zimmerman, meanwhile, is 3-for-6 with a homer in at-bats opposite left-handed hurlers.
Washington is 6-4 in its last 10 in Colorado.
Betting on the Colorado Rockies (13-6)
The Rockies’ offense need to be ready, especially when Tyler Anderson is dealing pitches.
Through four starts this season, Anderson hasn’t done much to keep the Rockies from biting their nails whenever he’s on the hill. Andersen sports a 1-3 record and a 7.32 ERA.
Anderson, however, looked better in his last start, allowing just two earned runs and six hits across five innings of a 4-2 road loss to the Dodgers on Apr. 19.
Good thing for Andersen, the Rockies have a rich offense he could expect to get his back if he messes up again. The Rockies supply their pitchers with 4.08 runs per nine innings. Colorado’s offense was rocking during a recent three-game series sweep at home of San Francisco, outscoring the Giants 26-8 in that stretch, including the Rockies’ 8-0 win Sunday night.
Charlie Blackmon is feeling it right now, as he carries an eight-game hit streak, going 10-for-31 in that span.
