The Nationals closed out a four-game series in San Diego with a 4-1 win Sunday. They reaped off three wins in that series, and will begin a new one tonight in Minute Maid Park against a vastly more stellar opponent in Houston.

Working the mound tonight for the Nats is Tanner Roark, who’s been respectable of late. Roark is 1-1 with a 3.26 ERA in his three starts. He picked up a loss in his last outing, but allowed just three earned runs on four hits in seven innings of a 3-2 home loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Aug. 16. Roark is 9-8 with a 4.70 ERA in 24 appearances this year (23 starts). He’s better when away from the nation’s capital, as he is 6-2 with a 4.19 ERA in 11 road starts on the season.

Complementing Roark is the Nationals’ offense that is getting some boost from shortstop Wilmer Difo. Difo is 20-for-66 with three doubles this month.

Betting on the Houston Astros (76-48)

Moneyline: -175

Two of Houston pitcher Charlie Morton’s biggest thorn in his side won’t be in the game tonight, as he faces the Nationals, so that’s quite a relief to know for the right-hander.

Bryce Harper and Jayson Werth are sidelined with different injuries, which mean Morton won’t have to deal with two players, who have a combined line of 8-for-22 and three homers against him.

Morton is 10-5 with a 3.69 ERA in 18 starts this year, and is coming off a solid outing in a 9-5 win at home against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Aug. 16. Against the D’backs, Morton threw for 6.1 innings, and allowed just an earned run on three hits. He did gave up four free passes, though, with nine strikeouts.

Jose Altuve will always be a danger at the plate for opposing pitchers. Altuve is hitting .396 since the All-Star break with six home runs and 17 RBI’s.

Writer’s Prediction

Houston (-175) wins, 5-3.
