Betting on the Washington State Cougars -1 (9-3)

Washington State had a great start to the 2017 season, going 6-0 from the get-go, a run which had them claim victory over the likes of Boise State, USC and Oregon. The Cougars’ undefeated streak was halted by a two of three “skid”, but follow-up wins over the Stanford Cardinal and Utah got them close to the Pac-12 championship game. Close, but no cigar.

The Washington State Cougars rank 31st in the country in total offense and 14th in total defense, the latter being a surprise to many experts who would not have put them in the top 25 in that department. The defensive accolade came from holding opponents to almost 100 yards fewer per game than they did in the 2016 season.

Betting on the vs MI State Spartans +1 (9-3)

The Michigan State Spartans started their season with a 6-1 record, claiming early victories over programs such as Iowa and Michigan. The Spartans would then lose two of three, but finished with back to back wins. Michigan State’s final regular season game came against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. In that 40-7 victory, the Spartans outgained the Knights by a total of 431-112 yards, owned the time of possession 48-12, and covered as 14-point favorites. That game would give Michigan State the right to lay claim to a record which had them outgain eight of ten Power 5 opponents and outrush seven of ten in the process.

The Spartans are excited to be back in another bowl, considering that they are coming off of a nine year absence that ended last season.

Writer’s Prediction

Washington State blew its chance at a Pac-12 championship game and will not come into the Holiday Bowl with the same pep in their step that they had at the onset of the season. On the flip side, Michigan State is pumped up going into what is just their second bowl of the last 11 seasons. The smart money here picks the Spartans.
