Betting on the West Virginia Mountaineers (-4)

The West Virginia Mountaineers will head to their Big 12 showdown with Oklahoma State with momentum on their side after thrashing the TCU Horned Frogs, 34-10, on Saturday. It was another impressive victory for the Mountaineers, who improved their season-record to 6-0. They have won their first six games by an average of 15.2 points.

Key to West Virginia’s tremendous start has been their incredible defense. The Mountaineers are 15th in the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 17.8 points per game this season. In successive weeks, West Virginia has held high-scoring Texas Tech and TCU to their lowest point totals of the season. The Mountaineers displayed their defensive supremacy right from the start against the Horned Frogs, scoring touchdowns in the game’s first six minutes after two TCU turnovers. Such was the Mountaineers’ dominance in this department that they held TCU to just 300 total yards, their lowest output of the season.

For the Mountaineers to preserve their unbeaten record against the Cowboys, they will need to quickly establish their passing game this coming Saturday. West Virginia outgained TCU, 231-148, in passing yards on Saturday. Skyler Howard bolstered his Heisman credentials, throwing four touchdown passes against the Horned Frogs. The senior quarterback has already passed for 1,821 yards and 12 touchdowns this season. He will be licking his chops at the prospect of facing an Oklahoma State secondary that’s allowing 267.1 yards per game through the air this season, 106th in the FBS.

The Mountaineers are 4-6 SU and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 road games.

Betting on the Oklahoma State Cowboys (+4)

Oklahoma State extended its winning streak to three games with a comprehensive 44-20 victory over the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday. It was another convincing performance by the Cowboys who recorded their seventh straight series victory over the Jayhawks. Leading the way for Oklahoma State in this victory was quarterback Mason Rudolph. He completed 16 of 24 passes for 220 yards and a touchdown. Benefiting from Rudolph’s solid play was Jalen McCleskey. He torched the Kansas secondary, nabbing six catches for 129 yards on Saturday.

Things are bound to get tougher, though, for Rudolph and the rest of the Cowboys as standing in their way in their next match are the streaking West Virginia Mountaineers. Rudolph will need to find ways to dissect a West Virginia defense that has allowed just seven passing touchdowns this campaign. Fortunately for Rudolph, he has Justice Hill at his side for Saturday’s crunch clash. He ran for a career-high 162 yards on 22 carries in the win against Kansas. That was Hill’s third 100-yard game of the season.

Defensively, the Cowboys will need to put the clamps on West Virginia quarterback Skyler Howard. He is 14th in the nation in passing efficiency with a rating of 157.4. The Cowboys will need to be at their best against a West Virginia offense that’s averaging 510.0 total yards per game this season, 10th in the FBS. Regardless of that fact, the Cowboys will still fancy their chances against the Mountaineers as they have fared extremely well against them of late. Oklahoma State defeated West Virginia, 33-26, in their lone meeting last season.

The Cowboys are 7-3 SU and 5-5 ATS in their last 10 home games.

Writer’s Prediction

West Virginia (-4) preserves their unbeaten record with a 35-21 victory.
