Team Strengths:
This Wichita State (+7,000) team is versatility at its finest. No one in the nation can probably rival the team’s all-around productivity on both ends of the floor. The Shockers can break down opponents in almost every way possible and could also fill the stat sheet like nobody’s business.
In the MWC alone, they finished the regular season ranking as the number one team in points, rebounds, assists, field goals, field goal shooting, and three-point shooting, while also committing the fewest turnovers.
Just to illustrate that all of it are not because they aren’t on a marquee conference, they join Gonzaga as the only two teams to be top 22 in the nation in points, points allowed, rebounds, assists, offensive efficiency, and defensive efficiency.
Team Weaknesses:
The Shockers are a rarity in college basketball. They have no major weaknesses.
There are some concerns on the inability to draw fouls (which helps in messing your opponents’ rhythm), but it shouldn’t be that big of a deal overall. The lack of blocks (only 3.7 BPG) can also catch your attention, except when you know that their interior defense as a whole is at an elite level.
It should be noted, though, that coach Gregg Marshall’s boys seem to frequently fall short on making it to the title game or the final four. The team has been selected to participate in the tournament in each of the last six years, but could only show one final four appearance.
