Betting on the Wichita State Shockers (23-5)
The Shockers are like a rolling boulder of late. They have won all of their last six games, and up ahead of them is a seemingly easy matchup with UCF, albeit on the road. In the first meeting between the two teams this season, Wichita State did not have much difficulty dictating the pace of the game, as the Shockers were dominant on the glass, outrebounding the Knights, 48-38, on their way to an 81-62 victory. The Shockers are seventh in the nation with 40.6 rebounds per game. On paper, the Knights have one of the toughest defense in Division I basketball, but the Shockers still found a way to score more than 80 points, mainly because they went 22-for-30 from the free-throw line. The Shockers are 12th nationally with 84.2 points per game.
Wichita State is 2-1 ATS in its last three road games.
Betting on the UCF Knights (17-11)
If only the UCF Knights could put up more points, they would have been one of the most balanced teams in the nation. Although they are allowing just 61.2 points per game – third in the nation –, they are scoring just 62.6 points. When up against ranked quality/ranked opponents, they get so easily exposed. The Knights were torn apart by No. 6 Cincinnati on Feb. 6, 77-40, and by No. 23 West Virginia on Nov. 24, 65-62. But wait, the Knights shocked No. 24 Alabama on Dec. 3 in Tuscaloosa, 65-62. They even limited star freshman Colin Sexton in that game to only seven points on 0-for-4 shooting. In the previous loss to the Shockers, the Knights also put the clamps on Wichita State’s star guard Landry Shamet, who mustered just four points (2-9 FG). The Knights got 15 and 12 points from B.J. Taylor and Dayon Griffin. Taylor leads the team with 14.6 points.
UCF is 5-2 ATS in its last seven home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Wichita State repeats over UCF with a 78-61 win.
