Betting on the Xavier Musketeers (odds)
Record: 17-4 Overall/9-1 Conference
Flashing once again their excellent outside shooting, the Musketeers scored an 82-79 win against the UConn Huskies last Wednesday on the road. That was a huge win for Xavier – and a much-needed one after a recent bad loss to the DePaul Blue Demons on Jan. 18. Xavier went 10/20 from behind the arc versus the Huskies. On the season, the Musketeers are shooting over 40 percent from deep. Souley Boum, who paces the Musketeers with 16.8 points, is shooting a stellar 45.2 3FG% this season. He also had 26 points and eight assists in Xavier’s 90-87 win against the Bluejays on Jan. 11.
Xavier is 6-2 against the spread in its last eight games overall.
Betting on the Creighton Bluejays (odds)
Record: 12-8 Overall/6-3 Conference
Creighton could be feeling untouchable at the moment. After their loss to Xavier, the Bluejays have won three games in a row, including Wednesday’s 104-76 takedown of the St. John’s Red Storm at home. All five of Creighton’s starters scored in double-figures against the Red Storm, including center Ryan Kalkbrenner, who had 16 points and five rebounds. Kalkbrenner is a problem for the Musketeers, as he scored 15 points on 5/8 shooting against them in the first meeting. There’s also stretch-4 Baylor Scheierman, who shot 4/7 from deep in that Xavier loss. Don’t forget about Creighton’s defense, though, as it is No. 1 in the Big East in adjusted defensive efficiency.
Creighton is 2-1 against the spread in its last three games as the home team.
Writer’s Prediction
Xavier wins, 77-76.
