Betting on the Maryland Terrapins (+2.0)
Record: 21-11 Overall/11-9 Conference
After back-to-back losses to end their regular-season schedule, the Terrapins scored a 70-54 win Thursday over the Minnesota Golden Gophers. That’s not much of a surprise, as the Golden Gophers are one of the weakest teams not just in the Big Ten but in the Power Five. Still, preventing a three-game skid ahead of the Big Dance was a big item off the list of Maryland, which won in the only meeting between it and Indiana in the regular season. The Terps defeated Indiana at home last January, 66-55, as their defense clicked, particularly in clamping Hoosiers guard Jalen Hood-Schifino, who went 1/14 from the field in that contest.
Maryland is 4-1 against the spread in its last five games overall.
Betting on the Indiana Hoosiers (-2.0)
Record: 21-10 Overall/12-8 Conference
This will be the Hoosiers’ first game of this edition of the Big Ten tournament, thanks to a bye in the first and second rounds. Well-rested, Indiana will look to sustain its momentum from a 75-73 overtime squeaker over the Michigan Wolverines last Sunday. Indiana has not won consecutive games since Feb. 11, going 3-3 straight up in the ensuing six games. The trend doesn’t bode well for Indiana, but the Hoosiers are always a threat to any team. For one, they have the 1-2 punch of Hood-Schifino, who will be so eager to atone for his lackluster performance in the first meeting with Maryland, and Trayce Jackson-Davis, arguably the best big man in the nation today.
The Over is 4-0 in Indiana’s last four outings.
Writer’s Prediction
Indiana wins, 72-70.
