The Yale Bulldogs are now playing catchup in the Ivy League conference after losing to Dartmouth a couple of weeks ago. Of course it would help their cause if Harvard and Dartmouth both lose this coming Saturday, but that won’t matter if they were ambushed by the Penn Quakers this Friday. Betting on the Yale Bulldogs (4-1)
[sc:NCAA240banner ]The Bulldogs are just fine. After suffering its first loss of the season, Yale got back in the win column with a gutsy 21-10 over Maine on last Saturday.
Yale, which lost to Dartmouth on October 10, got a big hand from Deshawn Salter in the win over Maine, as the sophomore running back went off for 139 yards and two touchdowns on 37 carries. Salter can expect a ton of workload again this coming Friday, considering that Penn’s flimsy defense that allows 174.6 rushing yards per game.
With last year’s backfield stud Tyler Varga now in the NFL, Salter is poised to duplicate what the now Indianapolis Colts running back did to Penn the last time these two teams met. In Yale’s 43-21 win over the Quakers last year, Varga led a backfield that racked up 264 rushing yards.
Complementing Yale’s running game, meanwhile, is Morgan Roberts and the Bulldogs’ air attack. Roberts, however, didn’t look good in the Maine game, as he threw for only 185 yards with no touchdowns and an interception on 14 of 33 passing.
That said, Roberts can be encouraged by his terrific performance against Penn last year, when he slung the pigskin for 346 passing yards and four touchdowns on a near-perfect 26 of 29 passing. He also ran for 51 yards on seven carries that day.
Yale is 5-2 SU in its last seven road games.

Betting on the Penn Quakers (2-3)
The Quakers sure could use a big win for some momentum, as they prepare for a match with Ivy League powerhouse, Yale. Following back-to-back defeats to Dartmouth and Fordham, respectively, Penn managed to put an end to its slump when it crushed Columbia last Saturday, 42-7.
Against Columbia, the Quakers rode a balanced offensive attack to notch just their second win of the season. On one hand, there was quarterback Alek Torgersen, who passed for 270 yards and three touchdowns on 19 pf 29 attempts. Wide receiver Christian Pearson, who only had 66 receiving yards prior to the contest, came out of nowhere and hauled down 10 catches for 126 yards and a touchdown.
With Pearson having a breakout game, the Quakers hope that he’ll be a nice complement downfield for top receiver Justin Watson when they go up against Yale. Watson is fourth in the conference with 456 receiving yards and first with five receiving touchdowns.
Torgersen, Pearson, and Watson should be able to put a dent on Yale’s defense early to make room for Penn’s backfield to operate. The tandem of Brian Schoenauer and Tre Solomon leads Penn’s rushing offense that averages 145.4 yards per game. Schoenauer has 330 rushing yards and four touchdowns thus far this season, while Solomon has 231 yards and two scores.
