Betting on the Yale Bulldogs (odds)
Record: 14-6 Overall/4-3 Conference
Yale scored its third win in a row last Saturday with an 87-65 home win over the Princeton Tigers. John Poulakidas led the Bulldogs in that game with 19 points, while August Mahoney chipped in 15 points. Yale’s outside shooting clicked against Princeton, with the Bulldogs going 14/21 from deep. It’s not going to be easy to sustain that kind of efficiency from behind the arc, but Yale has hit at least 10 3-pointers in each of its last two games. On the season, the Bulldogs are shooting 38.1 percent from the 3-point area against Ivy League opponents. Yale did not have that kind of shooting when it beat the Crimson earlier this month at home, 58-54, as the Bulldogs were just 4/15 on their threes, but it could be a much better story of them offensively this time around.
Yale is 4-4-1 in its last nine games.
Betting on the Harvard Crimson (odds)
Record: 12-9 Overall/3-4 Conference
Harvard’s season has been a wild roller-coaster ride for the most part. This is a team that has not won or lost in consecutive games over its last 15 games, dating back to late November of last year. In their last game, the Crimson lost to the Pennsylvania Quakers on the road on Saturday, 83-68. That means, according to their recent trend at least, the Crimson are due for a win on Friday. Harvard has the best defense in the Ivy League, as it is No. 1 in the conference in adjusted defensive efficiency, allowing only 99.4 points per 100 possessions. That explains a lot about why Yale struggled to hit its shots in the first meeting. That could be the story again this week, with Harvard now playing at home.
Harvard is 7-3 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
Yale wins, 65-62.
