Betting on the Yale Bulldogs (16-14)
The Bulldogs are peaking at just the right time. After a slow start to the season and in conference play, Yale has managed to win all of its last four games. The Bulldogs are also 7-1 SU in their past eight outings. That stretch includes their aforementioned win over Pennsylvania and a 94-90 overtime victory over Princeton at home last Saturday. Yale’s February loss the Quakers could be largely attributed to the Bulldogs’ horrendous 1-for-10 shooting from beyond the arc. Having said that, it’s unlikely that Yale would shoot anywhere close to 5.3 percent from beyond the arc again this season against the same team. The Bulldogs are the best shooting team in the conference with a 46.8 field goal percentage. They are also making 34.8 percent of their three-point shots this season. Also important for Yale is to win the battle on the glass. When it beat Pennsylvania in the rematch, Yale had 41 rebounds (14 offensive) as against the Quakers’ total of just 27 boards.
Yale is 4-0 ATS in its last four games overall.
Betting on the Pennsylvania Quakers (22-8)
Pennsylvania made sure that Harvard is not going to have the solo ownership of the Ivy League’s regular season title when the Quakers beat Brown last Saturday on the road, 99-93. Pennsylvania’s leading scorer Ryan Beatley exploded in that game for 30 points on 10-for-14 shooting from the field to go with six three-pointers. It was a nice rebound for Beatley who floundered in the previous game, scoring just five points in a close 80-79 loss to Yale. Hopefully for Beatley and the Quakers, his hands will still be smoking this Saturday opposite the Bulldogs. Beatley had a better outing on Feb. 3, when they beat Yale, 59-50. Beatley is averaging 14.7 points this season. AJ Brodeur, meanwhile, had 16 points on a nearly flawless 8-for-9 shooting from the floor in the loss to Yale earlier this month. Look for Pennylvania to make tons of shots from the outside, as the Quakers are third in the conference with 25.4 three-point attempts per contest.
Pennsylvania is 2-1 ATS in its last three meetings with the Bulldogs.
