Result: San Francisco 49ers def. San Diego Chargers, 49–26

MVP: Steve Young (QB, San Francisco)

Recap: Super Bowl XXIX was expected to be a one-sided affair in favor of the San Francisco 49ers, which were matched-up against the San Diego Chargers. It was exactly just that as the 49ers raced to a 28-to-10 lead after the first half then made it 49-26 for the game.

The high-scoring affair where the teams combined for 75 points is the highest-ever for most points in a Super Bowl. San Francisco’s 49 points ranks 3rd highest score for a single team. Steve Young, the Super Bowl XXIX MVP, threw six touchdowns—the most in Super Bowl history passing former 49er Joe Montana who had five vs. Denver in Super Bowl XXIV. Young completed 24-of-36 passes for 325 yards and no interceptions. 49ers wide receiver Jerry Rice rushed for 149 yards on 10 carries with 3 TDS.
