Betting on the LSU Tigers 6-2 (+21)

LSU has won three in a row with two wins over ranked teams in that span. Even with two losses they control their destiny in the SEC West, as they are 3-1 in conference play and they beat 4-1 Auburn so if they can pull off the HUGE upset on the road this Saturday they will be in the driver’s seat to get to the SEC title game. LSU is not a high scoring team, but they have a solid defense and they can run the ball.

LSU beat Mississippi State 40-24 in their last game where RB Derrius Guice ran for a season-high 276 yards to lead the Tigers to the conference win. They racked up 593 yards in the game, forced three turnovers and did not commit any, and they scored 27 points in the 2nd half. Danny Etling was only 9/13 in the game, but had 200 yards with two TD and he was not picked off. Darrel Williams led LSU with 105 receiving yards and he and Foster Moreau each had a catch of at least 60 yards.

Guice averaged 12.5 yards per carry in the win and he had gone four games without rushing for over 76 yards before blowing up against Mississippi State. He has a tall order in this game facing an Alabama run defense that is the top-ranked unit in the nation and only gave up 64 rushing yards in their last game. This season LSU is 3-1 on the road.

Betting on the Alabama Crimson Tide 8-0 (-21)

Alabama is the top-ranked team in the nation and in their last two games, they have outscored their opponents 86-16. They have the nation’s best defense and their offense is pretty good as well ranking 5th in the nation averaging 43 ppg. The Tide have covered the spread in their last four games facing the Tigers.

Alabama beat Tennessee 45-7 in their last game, which was their 2nd blowout win in a row. They totally dominated Tennessee on both sides of the ball gaining 604 yards while holding the Volunteers to only 108 yards. Heisman candidate Jalen Hurts passed for 198 yards with a TD and he did not play the whole game.

Damien Harris rushed for 72 yards and overall the Tide rumbled for 272 rushing yards with nine players getting carries. Hurts only has one INT all season and has gotten a lot of rest in the last couple of games in the blowout wins. Harris is the team’s leading rusher, Hurts ranks 2nd, and in the two games previous the Tennessee one he had rushed for 125 yards and 124 yards respectively. This will be Alabama’s first game facing a ranked team since their season-opening win over Florida State. This season Alabama is 5-0 at home.

Writer’s Prediction

Alabama is not only undefeated and stacked, but well rested coming off a bye. They will stuff the run in this game and on offense run the ball well and they will win and cover facing an LSU team that has failed to cover the spread in four of their last five games facing a team with a winning record. Pick: Alabama (-21)
